Queensland 491 Visa – FAQs

To qualify for the QLD 491 Visa, you must have a positive skills assessment, meet the points test, have Competent English (or higher), and hold an occupation eligible under the Migration Queensland Skilled Occupation List. You must also meet stream-specific requirements, such as Queensland residency, regional employment, or a job offer.

Do I need a job offer to apply for the QLD 491 visa?

Some QLD 491 streams require a full-time job offer in your nominated occupation or a closely related field, especially for regional areas. Other streams (such as QLD graduates) may not require a job offer if you meet study, residency, and employment conditions within Queensland.

Can offshore applicants apply for QLD 491 State Nomination?

Yes — Queensland accepts offshore applicants for certain high-demand occupations. Offshore applicants must demonstrate strong English, solid skilled employment history, and clear employability in Queensland’s regional labour markets.

The selection process is based on:

  • Your EOI points score
  • Your occupation’s demand in Queensland
  • Skilled employment or relevant experience
  • Residency in regional Queensland (onshore stream)
  • English score (higher English = more competitive)
  • Whether you meet QLD-specific criteria such as post-study work or small business ownership

Processing times typically range from 4–12 weeks, depending on the stream, occupation priority, and submission volumes. Offshore applicants or those needing extra verification may experience slightly longer processing periods.

You will generally need:
