The Subclass 802 (Aged Dependent Relative Visa) is a permanent visa for people who are the aged dependent relatives of an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen. This visa allows dependent relatives who are elderly and have limited financial independence to live in Australia permanently.  

  • To be eligible for Subclass 802, you must: 
  • Be the aged relative of an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen. 
  • Be aged (the minimum age for women is 45 years, and for men, it is based on the Australian Age Pension eligibility). 
  • Be financially dependent on your Australian relative for at least the past 3 years. 

No, a job offer is not required for Subclass 802. The eligibility is based on your age, your dependency on your Australian relative, and meeting the health and character requirements. 

 To apply for Subclass 802, you must lodge your application online via the Department of Home Affairs. You will need to provide documents such as the proof of relationship to your sponsor, evidence of your dependency, health and character documents, and any other required supporting evidence. 

  • You will need to submit documents such as: 
  • Proof of relationship to your Australian sponsor (birth certificates, family documents). 
  • Evidence of your financial dependency on your Australian sponsor (bank statements, proof of living arrangements, etc.). 
  • Proof of your sponsor’s Australian citizenship, permanent residency, or New Zealand citizenship. 
  • Identity documents (passport, birth certificate). 
  • Police clearances from any countries where you’ve lived for more than 12 months in the last 10 years. 
  • Health examination results. 

The processing time for Subclass 802 can vary, but on average, it takes between 24 to 30 months. Processing times may vary depending on factors like application volume, the complexity of the case, and the availability of places in the program. 

No, only the aged dependent relative can apply for this visa. However, dependent children of the applicant can apply for other visas if they meet eligibility criteria. 

Yes, you will need to meet health and character requirements. This includes undergoing a medical examination and providing police clearance certificates from countries where you’ve lived for more than 12 months in the past 10 years. 

The Subclass 802 visa is not points-based. Eligibility is based on age, dependency on your Australian sponsor, and the ability to meet health and character requirements. 

After submitting your application, the Department of Home Affairs will process it. You may be asked for additional documents or information. Once your application is processed and approved, you will be granted the Subclass 802 visa, allowing you to live permanently in Australia with your Australian sponsor.
