Skill in Demand Visa (Subclass 482)

The Skill in Demand Visa (Subclass 482) allows Australian employers to sponsor skilled overseas workers to fill roles where suitably qualified local workers are unavailable.

Under the updated 2024–2025 framework, this visa now operates across three streams — Core Skills, Specialist Skills, and Labour Agreement — replacing the former Short-Term and Medium-Term streams. This is a temporary employer-sponsored visa, and eligible applicants may be able to transition to permanent residency through pathways such as the Subclass 186 Employer Nomination Scheme, depending on their stream and employment circumstances.

Subclass 494 – Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional
(Provisional) Visa

The Subclass 494 visa is designed to address skill shortages in regional Australia by enabling employers to sponsor skilled workers for positions outside major cities. It is a provisional visa that offers a pathway to permanent residency after three years of working in a regional area. 

Key Subclasses

Stay and work in regional areas for up to 5 years.

Pathway to permanent residency through the Subclass 191 visa after 3 years of regional employment.

Sponsorship by a family member or state government is required.

Eligibility Requirements

Must be nominated by a state, territory, or family member living in a regional area.

Must meet the points test.

Subclass 407 – Training Visa

The Subclass 407 visa is designed for individuals who want to take part in structured workplace-based training to improve their skills, meet registration or licensing requirements, or build experience in their field. 

Key Subclasses

Allows you to stay in Australia for up to 2 years.

Suitable for enhancing occupational skills, participating in professional development, or completing registration requirements.

Dependents can be included in the application.

Eligibility Requirements

Must have sponsorship from an approved organization or employer.

Training must be relevant to your occupation and align with your career or licensing objectives.

DAMA – Designated Area Migration Agreements

Access to a wider variety of occupations, including some not on national skilled lists.

Sponsorship from an employer operating within a participating DAMA region.
