The Subclass 864 visa is a permanent Parent Visa for aged parents of Australian citizens, permanent residents, or eligible New Zealand citizens. It allows parents to live in Australia permanently and is the second stage of the Aged Parent Visa process, following the Subclass 864 (Temporary Parent Visa).

To be eligible for Subclass 864, you must:

  • Be the parent of an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen.
  • Be aged (the minimum age for women is 45 years, and for men, it is based on the Australian Age Pension eligibility).
  • Meet the Balance of Family Test, meaning at least half of your children are Australian citizens, permanent residents, or eligible New Zealand citizens, or more of your children must live in Australia than in any other country.
  • Meet health and character requirements.

No, a job offer is not required for Subclass 864. This visa is based on your relationship with your sponsor (your child who is an Australian citizen or permanent resident).

To apply for Subclass 864, you must lodge your application on paper through the Parent Visa Centre of the Department of Home Affairs. You will need to submit all required documents, including proof of your relationship with your sponsor, balance of family compliance, health and character documents, and other required evidence.

You will need to submit documents such as:

  • Proof of your relationship with your sponsor (birth certificates, family documents).
  • Proof of your sponsor’s Australian citizenship, permanent residency, or New Zealand citizenship.
  • Identity documents (passport, birth certificate).
  • Police clearances from any countries where you’ve lived for more than 12 months in the last 10 years.
  • Health examination results.

The processing time for Subclass 864 can vary depending on factors such as application volume and individual case complexity. On average, processing times can take up to 30 years, as it has a long waiting period due to limited annual places in the parent visa category.

Yes, you can include your dependent children in your application. However, they must meet the eligibility criteria and be added to the visa application at the time of submission.

Yes, you will need to meet health and character requirements. This includes undergoing a medical examination and providing police clearance certificates from countries where you’ve lived for more than 12 months in the past 10 years

The Subclass 864 visa is not points-based. Eligibility is determined by your relationship with your Australian child and your ability to meet the balance of family test.

After submitting your application, the Department of Home Affairs will review it. You may be asked to provide additional documents or information. Once your application is processed and approved, you will be granted the Subclass 864 visa, allowing you to live permanently in Australia.
