The Subclass 804 (Aged Parent Visa) is a permanent visa for aged parents of Australian citizens, permanent residents, or eligible New Zealand citizens. It allows you to live in Australia permanently with your children once you meet the age requirements and other eligibility criteria. 

  • To be eligible for Subclass 804, you must: 
  • Be the parent of an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen. 
  • Be aged (the minimum age for women is 45 years, and for men, it is based on the Australian Age Pension eligibility). 
  • Meet the Balance of Family Test, meaning at least half of your children must be Australian citizens, permanent residents, or eligible New Zealand citizens, or more of your children must live in Australia than in any other country. 
  • Meet health and character requirements. 

No, a job offer is not required for the Subclass 804 application. This visa is based on your relationship with your Australian child and meeting the Balance of Family Test. 

To apply for Subclass 804, you must lodge your application through the Department of Home Affairs. You will need to submit documents proving your relationship with your sponsor, your age, balance of family compliance, and meet health and character requirements. 

You will need to submit documents such as: 

  • Proof of your relationship with your sponsor (birth certificates, family documents). 
  • Proof of your sponsor’s Australian citizenship, permanent residency, or New Zealand citizenship. 
  • Identity documents (passport, birth certificate). 
  • Police clearances from any countries where you’ve lived for more than 12 months in the last 10 years. 
  • Health examination results. 

The processing time for Subclass 804 can be lengthy, often taking up to 30 years. This is because there is a significant waiting list due to the high demand for the visa and limited annual places. Processing times can vary based on factors like the number of applications in the queue. 

Yes, you can include your dependent children in your application. They must meet the eligibility criteria and be added to the visa application at the time of submission. 

Yes, you will need to meet health and character requirements. This includes undergoing a medical examination and providing police clearance certificates from countries where you’ve lived for more than 12 months in the past 10 years. 

The Subclass 804 visa does not have a points requirement as it is based on the balance of family and your relationship with your Australian child.  

  • After submitting your application, the Department of Home Affairs will review it. You may be asked to provide additional documents or information. Once your application is processed and approved, you will be granted the Subclass 804 visa, allowing you to live permanently in Australia with your sponsor.
