DAMA Sponsorship: Regional Employer Benefits

Access flexible sponsorship options to hire skilled workers in regional areas, with tailored concessions and pathways to permanent residency.

What is DAMA?

The Designated Area Migration Agreement (DAMA) program allows employers in specific regional areas to sponsor skilled workers with more flexible conditions than traditional visa pathways. This program is designed to help businesses overcome skill shortages by providing access to workers who may not meet the usual visa criteria.

Benefits of DAMA Sponsorship

Concessions on English, Salary & Age Requirements:

Businesses in DAMA regions can sponsor workers even if they don't meet the usual English proficiency, salary thresholds, or age limits typically required for standard visas.

Wider Occupation Lists:

DAMA provides the ability to sponsor occupations that might not be listed on the regular skills shortage lists (e.g., STSOL and MLTSSL), giving you greater flexibility in hiring.

Pathway to Permanent Residency:

Most DAMA sponsorships allow workers to transition to permanent residency (PR) through Subclass 186 or Subclass 191 after a certain period of employment in the regional area.

Support for Regional Growth:

By participating in the DAMA program, you are helping to fill vital roles in regional areas, contributing to local economic development and workforce sustainability.

Active DAMA Regions

DAMA is available in several regions across Australia, each offering tailored sponsorship agreements. Here are the current approved DAMA regions for 2025:

Goldfields DAMA (WA)

Kimberley DAMA (WA)

Pilbara DAMA (WA)

South West WA DAMA

Goulburn Valley DAMA (VIC)

Great South Coast DAMA (VIC)

Townsville DAMA (QLD)

Orana DAMA (NSW)

Adelaide City & SA Regional DAMA

Northern Territory DAMA

These regions offer unique benefits and requirements based on local needs, allowing businesses to sponsor workers for roles that may be difficult to fill with local talent.

DAMA Sponsorship Process

The process of sponsoring a worker under the DAMA program involves several key steps:
Once you receive DAR endorsement, you can apply to become a Standard Business Sponsor with the Department of Home Affairs (DHA). This includes submitting documentation like your ABN, financial statements, and business registration.

1. Obtain Endorsement from the Designated Area Representative (DAR)

Each DAMA region has a Designated Area Representative (DAR) who must endorse your business before you can apply for worker sponsorship.

2. Submit Sponsorship Application

Once you receive DAR endorsement, you can apply to become a Standard Business Sponsor with the Department of Home Affairs (DHA). This includes submitting documentation like your ABN, financial statements, and business registration.

3. Nominate Your Worker

Provide detailed information about the worker’s job description, salary, and qualifications. The worker’s role must meet the DAMA requirements, including the relevant salary threshold and any other concessions.

4. Visa Application

After the worker’s nomination, they will apply for the relevant visa (e.g., Subclass 482, Subclass 494, Subclass 186, or Subclass 191). This will include health checks, police clearances, and any required documentation.

5. Ongoing Compliance

Why Choose DAMA?

DAMA is ideal for businesses located in regional Australia that need skilled workers but face challenges in meeting the strict requirements of standard sponsorship visas. By leveraging the DAMA program, you gain access to workers in a wider range of occupations and more flexible conditions, all while contributing to the development of regional areas.

Hire workers for hard-to-fill roles that may not be eligible under standard visa programs.

Pathways to Permanent Residency (PR)

One of the key advantages of the DAMA program is the ability for workers to transition to permanent residency. After working in a designated regional area for a set period, workers can apply for PR through:

Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS)
Skilled Regional (Permanent) Visa
This allows employers to secure long-term talent while offering workers a pathway to remain in Australia permanently.
